Use the native call engine
The native call engine is a new, experimental way for Root desktop to run calls. Calls no longer need the built in browser, so video and screen shares get better frame rates and quality. It's off by default.
- Open Advanced settings (see above), or Audio and video settings. The switch is under Calls, with an EXPERIMENTAL tag.
- Turn on Native call engine.
It takes effect the next time you join a call. If calls aren't working for you, turn it off again. The setting only shows on computers that can run it.
With the native call engine on, you also get:
- Input profiles for your microphone. See Choose an input profile.
- Deafen mutes your mic too. See Deafen.
- Full screen calls. Select Full screen on the call, and Exit full screen to go back.
- Redesigned call controls.
Copy IDs with developer mode
With Developer mode on, Root adds options to copy the ID of the thing you are looking at. IDs are useful when you report a problem, or when a tool or bot asks for one.

Open the menu for a community, channel, channel group or message, or open a member's profile or a role's settings, and tap the copy ID option, for example Copy Channel ID. Your own user ID appears under Copy User ID on the Advanced screen.
