Streamer mode

Protect your privacy while streaming or recording by hiding personal information.

What is streamer mode?

Streamer mode is a privacy feature that helps content creators protect their personal information during livestreams and recordings. When active, streamer mode prevents viewers from seeing sensitive details in your Root interface.

Streamer mode can activate automatically when Root detects streaming software running on your computer, or you can toggle it manually using a keyboard shortcut.

How streamer mode works

When streamer mode is enabled, Root:

  • Hides personal information like email addresses and notes on member profiles
  • Hides invite links so viewers cannot see or use your community invite codes
  • Disables desktop notifications so alerts don't interrupt your stream or reveal private messages
  • Disables notification sounds to mute all audio alerts
  • Hides message previews in notifications and direct message previews
  • Shows a banner at the top of the window indicating that streamer mode is active

The banner includes a quick Disable button so you can turn off streamer mode without opening settings.

Supported streaming software

Root automatically detects the following streaming and recording applications:

  • OBS Studio
  • Streamlabs Desktop
  • XSplit Broadcaster
  • XSplit Gamecaster
  • Twitch Studio
  • And other popular streaming tools

Toggle streamer mode manually

You can turn streamer mode on or off at any time in settings. You can also use a keybinding (default is Ctrl+Shift+S) to enable streamer mode without opening settings.

  1. Select your profile picture in the user tray.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Streamer mode from the left navigation.
  4. Toggle Enable streamer mode on or off.

Enable or disable automatic activation

  • Maintain professionalism by controlling what viewers can see in your interface

Consider keeping automatic activation enabled if you regularly stream or record content that includes Root.
