Default notifications
Choose what your members get notified about until they pick their own setting.
What are default notifications?
Default notifications decide which messages notify members who haven't chosen a notification setting for your community yet. There are two options:
| Option | What members get |
|---|---|
| All messages | A notification for every new message |
| Only @mentions | A notification only when they're mentioned |
If you haven't chosen a default, the setting shows Only @mentions. Members can change their own setting at any time, and their choice always wins over the default. See Community and channel notifications.
How it works in large communities
Bigger communities have a few limits, so members aren't flooded:
- More than 250 members: members who haven't chosen their own setting get Only @mentions, even if the default is All messages.
- More than 2,500 members: mobile push notifications are only sent for mentions, even to members who chose All messages.
The settings page shows a note when either limit applies to your community.
