What are community emoji?

Community emoji are custom images that members can use alongside standard emoji in messages and reactions. Leaders upload emoji to their community, and any member can use them through the emoji picker or by typing the shortcode.

In channels where members have the Use External Emojis permission, they can use custom emoji from other communities they belong to. External emoji are always available in direct messages.

How community emoji work

Each community can have up to 100 custom emoji. The emoji page in community settings shows how many slots are available.

When you upload an emoji, you assign it a shortcode, a short name wrapped in colons (for example, :wave_hello:). Members type the shortcode or select the emoji from the picker to use it.
