Invite linkSomeone shares a link that you can open to join

Accept a direct invitation

When someone invites you to their community, you receive a notification.

  1. Select the Notifications icon (bell) in the user tray (top-right of the window).
  2. From the dropdown, select Community Invites to filter.
  3. Locate the community invitation in the list.
  4. Select Accept to join the community, or Decline to reject.

An invite link is a URL that someone shares with you. When you open the link, you see the community name, image, and member count.

When someone shares an invite link in a direct message or channel, Root displays a preview of the community.

  1. Locate the invite link preview in the message.
  2. Review the community name and member count.
  3. Select Join to join the community, or View if you are already a member.

If someone shares an invite link outside of Root (such as through email, text message, or another app), follow the steps below.

If you already have Root installed

  1. Open the invite link in your browser.
  2. If Root opens automatically, review the community details inside Root and select Join to join the community.
  3. If Root doesn't open automatically, review the community details in the browser window and select the "Accept Invite" button to join the community.

If you don't have Root installed

  1. Open the invite link in your browser.
  2. Review the community information on the landing page.
  3. Select Download Root to install the app and create an account.
  4. After installation, return to the browser to accept the invitation.

Discover verified communities

You can also browse and join verified communities through Root's discovery feature. For detailed instructions, see Discover verified communities.

What happens when you join?

When you join a community:

  • You receive the Everyone role automatically
  • You can see all channels available to the Everyone role
  • If the person who invited you assigned additional roles, you receive those as well
  • The community appears in your community list
