Troubleshoot audio and video issues

If you're having trouble with your microphone, speakers, or camera, try the steps below to get things working again.

1. Check your device settings

Make sure your microphone, speakers, and camera are properly connected and not being used by another app. On most systems, you can test and adjust these settings in your system preferences.

  • On Windows: Settings → System → Sound / Camera
  • On macOS: System Settings → Sound / Camera

2. Allow permissions

Your operating system may be blocking access to your devices. Look in the system setting to be sure the app has permission to use your microphone and camera.

3. Use the correct input and output

Inside Root, go to Profile → Settings → Audio and video and select the correct devices for input (microphone), output (speakers), and video (camera).

4. Restart Root or your device

Sometimes the fastest fix is to close and reopen Root, or restart your device entirely.

5. Update your software

Make sure you're running the latest version of Root, and check for any operating system or driver updates that may affect audio/video performance.
