Stop Root opening on startup
If Root opens by itself when you turn your computer on, it's in your system's list of startup apps. Root doesn't add itself there, so this happens when Root has been set to launch at startup on your computer. You can turn it off from your operating system's startup settings.
- Windows
- macOS
- Linux
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager (or press Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
- Open the Startup apps tab.
- Find Root in the list, select it, and select Disable.
Some setups add a shortcut to your Startup folder instead. To check:
- Press Windows + R, type
shell:startup, and select OK. - If there's a Root shortcut in the folder that opens, delete it.
- Open the Apple menu and select System Settings.
- Select General, then Login Items.
- Under Open at Login, select Root, then select the – (minus) button to remove it.
On older versions of macOS, this is under System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items.
How you manage startup apps depends on your desktop environment. Look for a Startup Applications or Session tool in your system settings and remove the Root entry. Startup entries are usually stored as .desktop files in ~/.config/autostart.
After this, Root won't open on its own the next time you start your computer. You can still open it yourself any time.
Want Root to keep running quietly instead of fully closing when you select the X? On desktop, the Close to tray setting keeps it in your system tray. That's separate from opening on startup.
If Root still opens on startup after this, contact support.
