Understanding cores​

What is a core?​

A core is a community power-up. You assign it to a community to raise its level, which unlocks benefits for everyone in that community, not just for you. See Cores overview.

How do I get cores?​

You can get cores two ways: subscribe to Sudo for 1 core every month, or buy cores directly on desktop, with no Sudo subscription needed. See Subscribe to Sudo and Buy cores.

How many cores can I have?​

Sudo gives you one core at a time. You can also buy cores directly, up to 5 in one purchase, and bought cores stack with your Sudo core, so you can hold several at once.

How do I buy cores?​

On desktop, open the community you want to power up, select its level badge, and choose Buy cores directly in the Level up the community panel. Pick how many cores you want, from 1 to 5, then confirm your payment. See Buy cores.

Do bought cores renew?​

Yes. Buying cores is a subscription, so they renew and keep powering the community, just like the core Sudo gives you. If you cancel, those cores stop powering the community.

Do cores expire?​

Your core renews each month for as long as your subscription is active. If your subscription ends, the core stops powering the community. See What happens to my core if I cancel Sudo?.

What do cores unlock?​

Each core adds a level, with no upper limit. Level 1 gives an app or bot slot, level 2 adds a vanity invite link, level 4 adds a Community Discovery listing (coming soon), and every core after that adds another app or bot slot. See Community levels.

Assigning and moving cores​

How do I assign a core?​

On desktop, open the community, select its level badge, and choose Assign. Assigning takes effect right away. See Assign and move cores.

How does a community reach a higher level?​

A community's level is the total number of cores assigned to it by all its members. Every core counts, so the level goes up as members assign more, whether that's more members joining in or a member who has bought extra cores. Members level it up together.

Can I move a core to another community?​

Yes, but it isn't immediate. The move takes effect at the start of that core's next billing cycle, so the community you're moving it from keeps the benefit until then.

Why isn't my move or removal immediate?​

Cores are tied to your billing cycle. Moving or taking a core back is scheduled for the start of that core's next cycle, which is why the change doesn't happen the moment you confirm. Assigning a new core, on the other hand, is immediate.

Can I cancel a scheduled move or removal?​

Yes. Any time before it takes effect, open your Cores settings, find the core with the pending change, and select Cancel move or Cancel removal.

Can I manage cores on mobile?​

No. You can see your cores and where they're assigned on mobile, but assigning, moving, unassigning, and buying cores are only on desktop.

When cores change​

What happens to my core if I cancel Sudo?​

When your subscription ends, your core stops powering the community and the community's level drops. If that leaves the community short of app or bot slots, an app is suspended and then permanently deleted after about three days unless someone restores the capacity. See Community levels.

What happens to a community when it loses a core?​

Its level drops, and any benefit tied to the higher level stops applying. If the community ends up with fewer app or bot slots than it has apps installed, one of those apps is suspended.

Can a community really lose an app?​

Yes. A suspended app stops working right away and is permanently deleted after about three days if the community's capacity isn't restored. Community owners get an email with the exact deadline. See Community levels.

Who can see that I assigned a core?​

Everyone in the community sees a message saying you powered it up. Two further records, the audit log and the Contributors list on the Cores page, are visible only to members who help run the community.

A short, custom invite link with your community's name in it, instead of a random code. It unlocks at community level 2. See Vanity invite link.

Your community needs to be at least level 2, which means two cores assigned to it. Below that, the option shows as locked.
