Assign and move cores
Choose which community your core powers up.
You manage cores on desktop. See Cores overview for what a core does.
See your cores
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Select your profile picture in the user tray.
- Select Settings.
- Select Cores.
The page lists every core you have, which community it is powering, and how many are still available to assign.
On mobile you can see your cores, but you cannot change them. To assign, move, or unassign a core, open Root on desktop. The app shows a Read only · Manage your cores on desktop notice at the top of the list.
- Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Cores.
Each core shows an Assigned or Available tag, and the date it renews. Cores that are about to change show Will be removed or Moving to another community with the date.
Assign a core to a community
Assigning takes effect right away: the community levels up as soon as you confirm.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Open the community you want to power up.
- Select the level badge at the top of the members panel, on the left.
- In Level up the community, select Assign.
- Check the confirmation, then select Assign.
You see a Core assigned confirmation, and a message telling you which level the community has reached.
Assigning a core is not available on mobile. Use the desktop app.
Everyone in the community can see the level badge, so you can check a community's level before you assign anything to it.
Move a core to another community
If your core is already assigned to another community, you move it rather than assigning a new one.
The move takes effect at the start of that core's next billing cycle, not straight away. The community you are moving it from keeps the benefit until then, and the community you are moving it to does not level up yet.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Open the community you want to move the core to.
- Select the level badge at the top of the members panel.
- Select Move core here.
- Check the confirmation, then select Move core.
The button says Move core here rather than Assign when you have no free cores but do have one that can be moved.
Moving a core is not available on mobile. Use the desktop app.
Unassign a core
Take a core back so you can use it somewhere else.
The core is removed at the start of its next billing cycle, not straight away. Until then it keeps powering the community.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Select your profile picture in the user tray.
- Select Settings.
- Select Cores.
- Find the core you want to take back.
- Select Options (three dots), then select Unassign core.
- Check the confirmation, then select Unassign.
Unassigning a core is not available on mobile. Use the desktop app.
When the removal takes effect, the community's level drops. If that leaves the community with fewer app or bot slots than it has apps installed, one of those apps is suspended, and it is permanently deleted after about three days unless someone restores the capacity.
The community's Cores page warns you if a scheduled removal would do this. See Community levels.
Cancel a scheduled move or removal
Changed your mind? A move or removal can be called off any time before it takes effect.
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Select your profile picture in the user tray.
- Select Settings.
- Select Cores.
- Find the core with the pending change.
- Select Options (three dots), then select Cancel move or Cancel removal.
- Select Confirm.
The core stays where it is, and the scheduled change is dropped.
Cancelling a scheduled change is not available on mobile. Use the desktop app.
Mobile does show which cores have a change pending, marked Will be removed or Moving to another community with the date.
What others see
Assigning a core is not private. When you assign one, a message appears in the community saying you powered it up, so everyone in the community sees that you did it.
Two more records are visible only to members who help run the community:
- Your name appears in the community's audit log (needs permission to view logs)
- You are listed under Contributors on the community's Cores page (needs Manage Community or Manage Apps)
