Show your screen to everyone during a voice or video call.

Start screen sharing

Desktop

1. During a call, select the Share your screen icon .
2. Configure your sharing options:

   • Share stream audio (Windows and Linux, and Mac with macOS 13 or later when the native call engine is on): Toggle on to include sound from the shared screen or application.

   • Stream quality: Choose a quality mode:

     Mode	Description
     Game mode	Smoother video (720p @ 30fps)
     Screenshare mode	Text clarity (Source @ 5fps)

     With Sudo, you choose the quality yourself instead: FPS (15, 30 or 60) and Resolution (720p, 1080p or 1440p (2K)).

3. Select a screen or application window from the picker to start sharing.
4. The Share your screen icon will have a solid blue fill color when you're sharing.

Mobile

Screen sharing needs iOS 16.4 or later, or Android 7 or later.

1. During a call, tap the screen share icon in the call controls.
2. Confirm with your phone:
   • iPhone: in the screen recording panel that appears, choose Root, then tap Start Broadcast.
   • Android: allow Root to share or record your screen when your phone asks.
3. A You’re sharing your screen bar appears in the call while you share.

Sound is off when you start. To share the sound from the app you are showing (a video or a game, for example), tap Audio in that bar so it is highlighted. Tap it again to turn the sound off. Root remembers your choice for next time. Sharing sound needs Android 10 or later. It works on all supported iPhones.

Stop screen sharing

Desktop

Select the Stop sharing your screen icon to stop sharing.

Mobile

Tap Stop in the You’re sharing your screen bar.

On iPhone, stopping the broadcast from Control Center also ends the share. On Android, locking your phone ends it.

View a shared screen

By default, screen shares don't play on their own. When someone shares their screen, a Watch Stream card appears for them in the call, and the stream plays once you choose to watch it. To have shares play as soon as they start, turn on Automatically watch screen shares.

Desktop

• Select the Watch Stream card to start watching that person's screen.
• To stop watching, hover over the stream and select the stop option. You stay in the call either way.
• Once you are watching, select the stream to toggle between it and the participant tiles view.
• Drag the edge of the member tiles area to resize it, or collapse it entirely to focus on the shared screen.

Mobile

When someone shares their screen, a Watch Stream card appears for them, marked with a red LIVE badge. Tap the card to start watching. Unless Automatically watch screen shares is on, nothing plays until you do.

Once you are watching, the share goes on the Stage by default: large at the top (on the left if your phone is sideways), with everyone else beside it. To choose a different layout, see Change the call layout.

Tap the expand icon to fill the screen with the stream. From there you can pinch to zoom, and turn your phone sideways for a wider view. Tap the close icon to go back.

To stop watching, tap the crossed out eye icon at the top right of the stream. If the stream fills the screen, tap the more icon (three dots) at the top right, then Stop Watching.

The expand icon is on every video tile in a grid or beside a share, not just shared screens, so you can do the same with anyone's camera.

Popout the call

Open your call in a separate window to multitask while staying connected.

Desktop

1. During an active call, select the Open in new window icon in the voice bar or channel toolbar.
2. The call opens in a separate window where you can continue viewing participants and screen shares.
3. Close the popout window to return the call to the main application.

Mobile

Call popout is not available on mobile.
