What is link protection?
When you select a link in a message that leads to an external website, Root checks whether the text in the link matches the destination address. If not, Root displays a confirmation dialog before opening it. This helps you:
- Verify the destination URL before visiting
- Avoid accidentally opening malicious or phishing sites
- Stay aware when leaving the Root app
Navigate external links
- Desktop
- Mobile
When you select a link in a message:
- A dialog titled Leaving Root appears.
- The full destination URL is displayed so you can verify it.
- Choose one of the following:
- Select Visit site to open the link in your browser
- Select Cancel to stay in Root
This feature is not available on mobile. Links open directly in your device's browser.
Tips for safe browsing
- Check the URL carefully: Look for misspellings or suspicious domains that impersonate legitimate sites
- Avoid shortened URLs: Be cautious with links that hide the true destination
- Don't enter credentials: Root will never ask you to sign in through an external link
