Open external links

Stay safe when following links shared in messages.

When you select a link in a message that leads to an external website, Root checks whether the text in the link matches the destination address. If not, Root displays a confirmation dialog before opening it. This helps you:

  • Verify the destination URL before visiting
  • Avoid accidentally opening malicious or phishing sites
  • Stay aware when leaving the Root app

When you select a link in a message:

  1. A dialog titled Leaving Root appears.
  2. The full destination URL is displayed so you can verify it.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Select Visit site to open the link in your browser
    • Select Cancel to stay in Root

Tips for safe browsing

  • Check the URL carefully: Look for misspellings or suspicious domains that impersonate legitimate sites
  • Avoid shortened URLs: Be cautious with links that hide the true destination
  • Don't enter credentials: Root will never ask you to sign in through an external link
