Block and unblock users

Block users to prevent them from messaging you or seeing your online status. You can block users from their profile, messages, or directly from notifications.

What happens when you block someone?

When you block a user:

• They can't send you direct messages
• They can't add you as a friend
• You won't see their messages in channels you share
• They won't see your online status

Block a user

Desktop

From a user profile or message:

1. Right-click the user's name (in a channel, member list, or DM).
2. Select Block.
3. Confirm the block when prompted.

From notifications:

You can block users directly from most notifications.

1. Select the Notifications icon (bell) in the user tray.
2. Locate the notification from the user you want to block.
3. Select the options icon (three vertical dots).
4. Select Block.
5. Confirm the block when prompted.

Mobile

From a user profile or message:

1. Tap the user's name or avatar in the member list or a text channel to open their profile.
2. Tap Block.
3. Confirm the block when prompted.

From notifications:

You can block users directly from most notifications.

1. Tap the Notifications tab in the navigation bar.
2. Locate the notification from the user you'd like to block.
3. Tap the user's profile picture in the notification.
4. Tap Block.
5. Confirm the block when prompted.

View blocked users

Desktop

1. Select your profile picture in the top-right corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Blocked users.

Mobile

1. Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation bar.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Blocked users.

Unblock a user

Desktop

1. Select your profile picture in the top-right corner.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Blocked users.
4. Select Unblock next to the user's name.

Mobile

1. Tap the Profile tab in the bottom navigation bar.
2. Tap Settings.
3. Tap Blocked users.
4. Tap Unblock next to the user's name.
