Organize channels
Reorder channels and move them between channel groups.
Reorder channels
Required permissions
- Channel Full ControlRequired on the channel you're moving
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Click and drag a channel to a new position within its group.
- Release to drop the channel in place.
Reordering channels is not available on mobile.
Move a channel to a different group
Required permissions
- Channel Full ControlRequired on both the channel and the destination group
- Desktop
- Mobile
- Click and drag the channel from its current group.
- Drop it into the target channel group.
Moving channels between groups is not available on mobile.
Permission syncing
When you move a channel to a new group, its permission syncing setting stays the same. If syncing is enabled, the channel will adopt the permissions of its new group. If syncing is disabled, the channel keeps its existing permissions.

Reordering channel groups is not available on mobile.
Tips for organizing channels
- Group by topic: Put related channels together (e.g., all project channels in a "Projects" group)
- Put important channels first: Members see the top channels first, so put announcements and general chat near the top
- Use clear names: Channel names should make it obvious what the channel is for
- Archive old channels: Instead of deleting, move inactive channels to an "Archive" group
