Reorder channels and move them between groups.

Required permissions

Desktop

1. Drag a channel to a new position within its group.
2. Release to drop the channel in place.

Mobile

1. Press and hold the channel list to open the list options.
2. Tap Reorder.
3. On the Channels tab, drag a channel by its handle to a new position.

Your changes save as you go.

Move a channel to a different group

Required permissions

Desktop

1. Drag the channel from its current group.
2. Drop it into the target channel group.

Mobile

1. Press and hold the channel list to open the list options.
2. Tap Reorder.
3. On the Channels tab, drag a channel by its handle and drop it under the group you want to move it to.

Permission syncing

When you move a channel to a new group, its permission syncing setting stays the same. If syncing is on, the channel will adopt the permissions of its new group. If syncing is off, the channel keeps its existing permissions.

2. Release to drop the group in place.

Mobile

1. Press and hold the channel list to open the list options.
2. Tap Reorder.
3. Select the Groups tab, then drag a group by its handle to a new position. Its channels move with it.

Tips for organizing channels

• Group by topic: Put related channels together (e.g., all project channels in a "Projects" group)
• Put important channels first: Members see the top channels first, so put announcements and general chat near the top
• Use clear names: Channel names should make it obvious what the channel is for
• Archive old channels: Instead of deleting, move inactive channels to an "Archive" group
